If you noticed two bright stars near the moon on the evening of December 1st, what you saw was a conjunction of the the crescent-Moon and planets Venus (the brighter object) and Jupiter.
The alignment of the two planets (from Earth's perspective) will not occur again until 2015.
In case you missed it here is a picture I took of the event from northern-Virginia.

Very nice!
Jacki sent me over. Thanks for the beautiful picture! I admired them in the sky but was nowhere near my camera...and I wouldn't have captured the shot as well as you did.
Came from Jacki's blog. YES! I saw it here in Dubai that night (Dec 2 here). We were in the middle of a desert somewhere outside the city and it was so dark, the sky was so beautiful.
Sadly, I wasn't able to capture it with my camera. I had an SLR with me but it wouldn't just click in the manual setting. Maybe because it was too dark? I don't know but it was a delight to see it with my naked eyes.
Great picture of a rare event.
Thank Jacki for sending me over.
